The idea was, even without Cole pitching in this game, the Yankees had a chance to take advantage of his looming presence in Game 5, and manager Aaron Boone seemed prepared to do exactly that. Closer Luke Weaver seemed to be on track for a seven-out save before that big eighth inning made it unnecessary, and after Luis Gil got in trouble in the fifth, Boone went to high-leverage Tim Hill and Clay Holmes to get through that inning.
Wells, who entered the night 4-for-43 with 19 strikeouts in the postseason, crushed a solo home run to the upper deck in the sixth inning. Two innings later, the Yankees finally busted the game open with a five-run outburst, fueled by Gleyber Torres’ three-run homer, while forcing Dodgers right-hander Brent Honeywell to throw 50 pitches.
“I don’t think anyone expected to lay down,” Dodgers skipper Dave Roberts said. “We had some at-bats that I thought could have been better, but we knew it was a bullpen game. They did it against the Yankees in the ALCS en route to their first World Series title in 86 years. The only other team to force a Game 7 was the 2020 Houston Astros who then lost to the Tamp Bay Rays.
It’s Gerrit Cole vs. Jack Flaherty, the World Series Game 1 starters, back for a second round in Game 5. The Yankees did what they needed to do Tuesday night, beating the Dodgers in a bullpen game to give Cole — the Californian now pitching for his childhood favorite team — another chance to take the ball in this World Series. Now he’s got to make it count. Cole, the 2023 AL Cy Young winner, has a 2.82 ERA in four starts this postseason.

Outlaws spends its first 10 hours or so introducing Kay and her salamander-cat-whatever partner, Nix; the story’s inciting incident (a heist in her home of Canto Bight that goes so phenomenally wrong it earns her a death warrant from a crime syndicate); and their resulting flight off-world to newer pastures. Kay steals an old but valuable ship called the Trailblazer during her escape and proceeds to crash it on Toshara, an inhabited moon in another part of the galaxy. The opening hours also introduce a number of major characters, all the core gameplay systems, and the variety of open-world activities you can get down to, before culminating in a quest to fix the Trailblazer’s hyperdrive. That upgrade opens up access to the rest of the planets in the game: icy Himalayas analog Kijimi, swampy jungle Akiva, and familiar desert hellhole Tatooine.
You can make a few story choices throughout the main story which shapes how the narrative unfolds which is pretty cool, but I didn’t find myself sitting there pondering what if supported these bad guys instead of those bad guys.
Open world games can tend towards a laundry list of hundreds of little tasks to complete, it was one of the major comments we saw when previewing STAR WARS OUTLAWS earlier this year, the fatigue for a basically endless world is real.
Massive does deserve praise for the game’s accessibility options, which are so numerous as to be borderline overwhelming (thankfully, they come with some presets). The “difficulty” setting is really just a gameplay preset of dials for elements such as enemy health and combat intensity. Each preset lists off the specific options it changes, so you can use them as starting points and then tweak individual settings. It allows any player to tailor huge aspects of the game to their liking so that the experience is right for them, which should just be an industry norm at this point. The aforementioned QTE for eating snacks can be turned off, for example. And regardless of one’s point of view on the notorious “yellow paint” wayfinding markers, there are options to disable them entirely, or to change their color and opacity so that they’re still visible but more understated.

• Freeman won well-deserved World Series MVP honors, with four homers, 12 RBIs and a .300 average. He’s the 12th player to win a league MVP and World Series MVP in his career, and to say the list is good company is an understatement. Ticket prices for a potential Game 6 in Los Angeles, where the Dodgers would have a chance to clinch a championship on their home field for the first time since 1963 when they swept the Yankees, start at $1,200. The cost of tickets for a potential Game 7 start at $1,400. Prices are likely to jump if the Yankees manage to win on Thursday and make the series that much more interesting.
How will the bullpens line up after the starter?Dodgers: After using Ben Casparius and Landon Knack for the majority of Game 4, the Dodgers are now in position to use just about everyone in the bullpen on Wednesday night. Blake Treinen hasn’t pitched in a couple of days now and will be available for two innings. Outside of Daniel Hudson, who struggled in Game 4, the Dodgers should have plenty of coverage.
