As a player, you can swap your vocation (class) as often as you like, and then you can fill out your party with pawns — NPCs to fight by your side that you can change out on a whim. Together, you and your pawns go explore the vast world of Dragon’s Dogma 2 — a world made even bigger by the lack of readily available fast travel. A quick trip to the next town over becomes a journey. You learn the roads between the big cities as you traverse them over and over. It makes the world familiar.It’s a world populated by a mix of low-level enemies, like wolves, goblins, and lizardfolk, but also peppered with towering cyclopes, minotaurs, and griffins. This creates a really satisfying mix of hack-and-slash combat that you flavor with whatever class and tactics you want and large-scale, Shadow of the Colossus- or Monster Hunter-style not-quite boss fights. And through it all, you’re tackling quests for the characters that populate the cities, with a grand conspiracy in the main story supported by smaller, more human conflicts. Where to play: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series XCat Quest 3 isn’t one of the year’s best action RPGs on its own merits, purr se, but rather on what it represents: glorious, unfussy couch co-op. Rare are games these days that let you sit down next to a friend IRL to embark on a grand adventure of slashing and spelunking (and haggling over who gets the better loot). Any game that does it as effurtlessly as Cat Quest 3 does deserves a nod. —AN

It’s been said before, and I’ll say it again – Bloodborne desperately needs a remaster, and if it’s going to launch at any time, it might as well be a launch title for the PlayStation 6 to drive up sales. Speaking for myself, as someone who has yet to play Bloodborne but is a huge fan of FromSoftware’s other work, playing a remastered version of this cult gothic classic would definitely make me want to get the console.

However, while I did enjoy revisiting Scott’s world after so many years, the game is by no means perfect, and there are a few things that you should be aware of before diving in. There is certainly not a lot of variety in terms of gameplay when it comes to attacks and combos, with each character having just one regular attack and one heavy (with jumping and crouching variations). This is not inherently a bad thing, but it can get slightly repetitive, especially when you consider you can’t really pull off any combinations besides doing one of the two attacks. One of the most frustrating things in the game is that you cannot outright see what each item does for you until you purchase it, which can lead to wasting money on the wrong items when trying to level up your fighter in a specific category. However, I found this a pretty easy obstacle to circumnavigate by looking up a shopping guide on my phone whenever I played the game and went to a store.

The game was released in North America on August 10, 2010, being released a day later on August 11, 2010 in PAL regions. The game was highly similar to the more known “Complete Edition” released in 2020. Although being similar, Knives Chau and Wallace Wells were rather DLC, and not included with the game from the start. Knives Chau, and the two modes, Dodge-Ball and Battle Royal were released on November 9th, 2010, to coincide with the movies Blu-Ray and DVD release. 3 years later, on March 12, 2013 on PS3 and March 13, 2013 for Xbox Live Arcade, DLC with Wallace Wells was released. The DLC was scheduled for February 5, 2013, but was delayed. The game was unexpectedly delisted from PSN and Xbox Live Arcade on December 30, 2014, most likely due to either copyright issues, or contract expiration with Oni Press, O’Malley and Ubisoft.
On December 30, 2014, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game and its DLC were delisted from the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network, possibly due to the license expiring. In May 2020, approaching the film and game’s 10 year anniversary, both O’Malley and Wright tweeted Ubisoft asking to bring the game back alongside a re-release of the film. In August 2020, O’Malley tweeted that Ubisoft has reached out to him. In September 2020, Ubisoft announced Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game – Complete Edition, a remaster of the original game including both DLC packs’ contents, for a January 14, 2021 release on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows, Xbox One, and Stadia. On January 8, 2021, it was revealed that Limited Run Games would release a physical version of the game, alongside several special edition releases with additional physical bonuses.
